We offer root canal treatments where the nerve in the tooth is infected and causing problems. Root canal treatments (despite the myths and stories) are not meant to be painful. Our highly trained dentists use the latest techniques and materials to ensure we attain the highest levels of success, in the most pain-free, comfortable environment possible.

All teeth have roots and some have 1 canal or 4 canals. Their paths can be simple or complex. In these canals are the nerves of the teeth that allow the teeth to have sensation to hot, cold and pressure. When the nerves become infected by bacteria or die due to trauma to the tooth, it is important to remove and disinfect these canals to ensure you can keep the tooth functioning and pain-free. Studies show successfully completed root treatments can enable the patient to keep that tooth for 10 years.

What is the procedure?

root canal

We start by anaesthetizing the area thoroughly. We will then isolate the tooth with a rubber or latex-free sheet to prevent saliva and bacteria further infecting the tooth. Elastic files are then placed into the canals to clear the debris, and shape the canals. These canals are thoroughly washed with bleach to dissolve and disinfect these small canals.

Once the canals have been cleaned and shaped they are filled with an inert rubber filling material which is cemented in place. This is then sealed with a filling, and a crown being constructed to protect the tooth.

After root canal fillings, teeth can become brittle, crowns or onlays protect the tooth from fracturing and also serves to seal the root filling to prevent further ingress of bacteria.

Materials

All the materials and files used in a root canal procedure are single-use only. This means each patient will have their own set of files used on them. Once the procedure is complete these instruments are discarded.

New materials ensures no bacterial contamination and efficient treatments can be completed.
